My sister and I love some raw fish. Well, she has an aversion to eel, but I love her anyway. I guess last night we were feeling in a 12 South mood, so we went to Ru San's.
Neither of us had been. It wasn't very crowded, though I hear it's a madhouse at lunchtime thanks to their buffet.
First of all: Drinks. We each got a sake cocktail. Diana got something called a rising sun, which was way too sugary for her. It was good to me, but not so much with food. I got a sake martini.
Nasty.
I've had sake martinis before, so don't get me wrong. This one was so salty it was undrinkable. Being the nerd I am, I told the waiter it was fine. I'm just so darn unhesitant to send things back. I just stuck to water while sneaking sips from my sister's drink. Heck, it was only five dollars.
Now for the sushi. We decided to each get one thing fried, and one thing not fried. I got the fire cracker maki, which was the favorite all around. I also got the kohaku, which was pretty darn good too. You really can't beat fried (which the fire cracker was). It must be part of my southern heritage, but anything fried is better to me. Okra, candy bars, sushi...mmm.
Anywho, we had a hilarious time fiddling with chopsticks and eating sushi in a cool relaxed restaurant. We both decided we liked the surroundings much better than Virago, the most pretentious place on the planet. Next time I want to watch douchbaggy guys, I'll head there. When I want good, no fuss sushi, I'll go to Ru San's. When I want a sake martini, I'll...think again.
Oh yeah, go to Ombi. It rules and it worries Diana and I that it's always so empty.

Gosh, that place was so darn likeable. I'll forgive the nasty drink and pimiento cheese roll (weird!).
Thanks for bailing me out of my boring week AGAIN. You're a champ! 'Til next time!
